Cavin Johnson has advised one of his former players to remain in Europe.
The former Al Ahly assistant coach has urged South African winger Kobamelo Kodisang to not return to his native country. The attacker has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs in recent weeks.
Johnson gave Kodisang his first taste of senior football as a 15-year-old teenager while he was still the head coach of Platinum Stars.
Speaking to Isolezwe, the 63-year-old advised the attacker to not consider a move back to the Premier Soccer League emphasising that age is still on his side.
“Playing abroad is a good thing and Kobamelo deserves to be one of the best players.
“He is 22 years old and has shown that he can influence a game – he is in Portugal in a good league, especially for a player his age.”
After spending three seasons with Braga’s reserve team, he was finally handed his debut towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign – something Johnson highlighted as a big boost going forward.
“He showed patience playing in the lower division, so it was nice to see him get a chance to play in the first team, which means he is a player they have high hopes for.”
On the international stage, the former Bidvest Wits winger has played for all South African junior national teams, but he is yet to make his Bafana Bafana bow.
