Kaizer Chiefs suffered defeat in their first DStv Premiership match of the season, as they lost 1-0 to Royal AM at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday evening.

It was the third successive win for Royal AM over Chiefs, and a good start for the new technical team of the KwaZulu-Natal outfit

Royal AM 1-0 Kaizer Chiefs

It was Royal AM who took the early, as Ricardo Nascimento acted quickest to score, following up after Bruce Bvuma saved Andre de Jong’s initial attempt. 1-0 in the second minute.

Chiefs captain for the game Keagan Dolly had a chance from outside the area in the 13th minute but went wide of goal. Two minutes later Khama Billiat was played in, but his first-time shot from close range went straight at Hugo Nyame.

Ashley Du Preez went close in the 27th minute, as Nyame was unable to hold onto his shot, but Royal AM were able to clear the follow-up attempt.

It was almost two for Royal AM in the 29th minute, but Bvuma pulled off a good save to deny De Jong, and again in the 36th minute, with Mxolisi Macuphu miskicking a shot, and it went wide.

With four minutes to go to halftime Du Preez lined up an effort from outside the area, but it went high and wide.

And while Chiefs ended the half strongly, when the halftime whistle blew, it remained 1-0 to the hosts.

Yusuf Maart tried a shot from range in the 56th minute, but it was off target.

De Jong had a chance for the hosts just on the hour mark, but after some good work on the left, he shot over.

Siyethemba Sithebe went close in the 67th minute, but his snapshot went straight at Nyame.

Two minutes later Nascimento almost got his brace, but was denied by a quality reflex save by Bvuma.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who had come off the bench, hit the side netting in the 75th minute.

Dolly’s free kick attempt in the 89th minute was struck powerfully, but Nyama was able to make a save, while Dillon Solomons’ free kick attempt  in stoppage time curled just wide.

Despite the late pressure, Chiefs were unable to get a goal, and Royal AM keep their 100% win record against Chiefs.
