Chiefs Aim For Second Soweto Derby Double Over Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs reserves have the chance to complete the double over Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s Soweto Derby between both club’s reserves sides.

Amakhosi enter the game on better form after beating Marumo Gallants 4-1 and Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 in their last two games, while the Buccaneers enter the match on the back of two defeats – losses against SuperSport and Maritzburg United reserves saw them drop off the top of log.

Chiefs coach Vela Khumalo has stated that his side are aiming to follow in the footsteps of the first team and complete the double over their rivals after already beating them 3-0 in September.

“We would like to repeat what the senior team have done, but it’s not our biggest priority,” Khumalo told the club’s website.

“Many of our players are 17 or 18 years old, so we need to ensure that they play well and learn all the good things we want them to do so that they can be ready for the future.”

Khumalo also insisted that they will approach the match in the same manner as any other game.

“The principle and model are the same,” he added.

“We can’t deviate from the plan and we have our own philosophy. The boys know what needs to be done and will play according to our own philosophy.”

The DStv DiskiChallenge Soweto Derby will kick off at 12:30 at the Bidvest Stadium and be shown live on SuperSport 202.
