Cardoso Breaks Silence On Chiefs Exit

Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has broken his silence after he was one of eight players released by Amakhosi.
The 33-year-old moved to Naturena from Free State Stars in 2015 and became a mainstay in the club’s defence after overcoming his initial massive injury.
Overall, he made 202 appearances for the Glamour Boys but he admitted the announcement of his departure didn’t come as a big surprise.
“It’s a bitter pill to swallow. I mean, I’ve been at Chiefs for seven years and all good things come to an end unfortunately,” Cardoso told Thabiso Mosia on SAFMSportOn.
“It’s one of those, I’ll soldier on and look for a new adventure. You could see in the week’s prior to this happening that they will be doing a clean-up and most of the senior players will be leaving.
“It’s not such a big surprise, I had an option on my contract and obviously the club thought they were going to make a few more changes and they were going to change things up.
“There is nothing I could do, I just wish them good luck and hope they’re reaching what they’re looking for.”
When asked whether he was hoping the club would take the option to extend his contract, Cardoso reiterated that his departure is a bitter pill to swallow.
“It would’ve been nice. Naturena is a village and a beautiful place to be in,” he added.
“It’s one of the best facilities in the country when it comes to training and all of that, but like I said everything comes to an end and better things are to come.
“I’m not gonna… It’s a bitter pill to swallow, of course, it was great team to be a part of but new things can fall my way and I have to soldier on.”
Cardoso is one of eight players who released, the others being Samir Nurkovic, Lazalous Kambole, Lebagang Manyama, Leonardo Castro, Daniel Akpeyi and Kearyn Baccus – all with expiring deals.
In addition, Anthony Agay was placed on the transfer list, while Dumisani Zuma was released a year before his contract expires due to “numerous disciplinary issues”.
