Broos Reacts To Bafana Win Over Morocco

Bafana Bafana coach was very happy after his side’s 2-1 win over Africa’s highest-ranked team Morocco, saying everyone can see a clear improvement in his side over the last few months.

The two sides first met in July 2019, when Morocco beat South Africa 2-1 at home, in a game, which could’ve seen them score a few more goals.

However, on Saturday, Bafana stood up to Walid Regragui’s side that finished four at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and are currently ranked in 11th position in the FIFA rankings.

As a consequence, Broos was a very happy coach after the match, insisting building a team takes time.

“I don’t have to tell you that I’m very, very happy today,” he said after the match.

“Not only because we won the game, I think we deserved to win the game. See the chances we’ve had. But I’m more happy about the performance.

“I said before the game, the result is not important but I like to see a good performance, I like to see progression we made in the last months.

“I think and I hope that you’ll agree we saw a team that made enormous progression in the last months.

“We played against a very good team, a very good team! We were never dominated, never. On the contrary, we sometimes dominated that team.

“We had three/four very good chances to chances to score. If I remember, just one or two fro Morocco. It means that we were from the first minute to the last minute in the game.

“I’m happy that I went on to give confidence in that group of players. I believe in them, even when some people didn’t believe in them, [saying] I made ‘bad choices’. I didn’t understand the South African culture…

“But you see, you don’t build a team in one day. You need time! In that time defeat can be very useful. So we had defeats but we learnt a lot from them. Today you see a team that’s black, a team that plays good football, a team that creates a lot of chances.

“I think that’s what we want and we still have to improve that’s for sure.”

The win saw Bafana move into first place in Group K with seven points, one ahead of the Morocco, who could reclaim the top spot with a win or draw in the final group match in September.
