Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has singled out one of his players for a very special gesture in his side’s 4-0 over Sierra Leone.

The Belgian tactician said he was a “happy coach” after his side beat Sierra Leone 4-0 on Saturday, thanks to goals by Themba Zwane, who netted a brace, Mihlali Mayambela and Aubrey Modiba.

Broos was visibly pleased with his side and revealed a special gesture by Ronwen Williams, who helped Bafana newbie Melusi Buthelezi to make his debut.

“With 10 minutes before the end, when it’s 4-0, your captain comes to the side and says, ‘coach, if you want, you can change me’,” said Broos afterwards.

“That proves, that shows the mentality and the friendship in the group. This is also important, when as a captain you want to give a chance to a new man, a guy who is for the first time with the national team, and you take yourself the initiative to go to the coach to say ‘coach, if you want you can change him.

“I am happy with that also. [It shows] there is a good atmosphere within the group. I saw it this week. I saw tthe way they treat each other, the way they are dealing with each other, it is very good.

“So, I hope it doesn’t stop today, let’s go on next Tuesday and I think if we keep it will help us for the future and certainly for the games next year in March to have a positive result.”

Bafana are again in action on Tuesday when they will face Botswana.
