Broos Names 4 Bafana Starters

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed he will select a completely changed team against Botswana, naming four players who’ll be in his starting XI.

On Saturday, Bafana beat Sierra Leone 4-0 in one of the best and most fluid displays in recent times. Themba Zwane scored a brace, while Mihlali Mayambela and Aubrey Modiba were on the scoresheet.

However, Broos insisted he will play a different side against Botswana to give the other half of his squad a chance to shine.

“I said we are 23 players, there are 11 who played Saturday – question: who will play tomorrow if I said it will be a total different team,” he told reporters.

“Yes [Goodman] Mosele will play, yes [Teboho] Mokoena will play, yes [Ashley] Du Preez will play. I was clear, right? And Siyanda [Xulu] will play also.”

Broos also admitted that in hindsight it may have been a mistake to play against France, because he didn’t expect such a heavy backlash after the match.

“You have to start somewhere and we chose the most difficult way, to play in France to play against the world champion,” he added.

“Therefor I was so angry for a certain moment that people didn’t want to understand that. They didn’t want to understand that. They just wanted to criticise me, to criticise my choices and that’s all.

“It should not be good again to play against those kind of opponents because people are just looking at results and not why are you doing it.

“We start now with Sierre Leone and tomorrow we will do Botswana. We try, I repeat we will try to have two games in November, that’s for sure.

“But maybe we took the wrong decision in March this year to play against the world champions. It was nice, everybody was happy till the moment you lose 5-0 and then they kill you and I don’t want to do that anymore.

“We will build up and will be there when we have to. You can be sure. But people have to understand a little how you can reach the goal you put.”

Bafana will take on Botswana at the FNB Stadium at 18:00. Tickets cost R40 and are available on TicketPro.
