Broos Flabbergasted About Ncikazi’s AFCON Comments

Hugo Broos has for a first time addressed Mandla Ncikazi’s comments that the Premier Soccer League “is bigger” than the African Cup of Nations.

The Orlando Pirates co-coach had tried to explain Gabadinho Mhango’s continued absence from the Buccaneers’ starting XI and at times even squad, by saying “maybe the league in South Africa is bigger than AFCON”.

He also stated that he believes that the competition at PSL teams is higher than in some teams at the AFCON. However, Broos has now reacted to the remarks and said they must’ve been a “joke”.

“I was also surprised to read that because maybe this coach was never at AFCON, maybe he doesn’t know what the level was,” he told Skepe Matsebane on PowerSportExtra.

“But I can assure you the level this year was much higher than PSL, much higher.

“How can you tell that the level was not high when you see players like Koulibaly in Senegal, who plays for Napoli, Salah, who plays for Liverpool in Egypt, like Mane, he plays in Senegal for Liverpool.

“How can you say the level in the PSL is higher? I think he made a joke, because this is not true.
