Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he made a u-turn and finally called up Mamelodi Sundowns forward Themba Zwane.
The Belgian tactician has continuously overlooked Zwane and his teammate Andile Jali, despite many in South Africa believing they should be in the squad following their performances for Mamelodi Sundowns over the past two years.
“I said it from the beginning and I’ve said it now and I’ll say it in two years when I’m still here, I’m very sorry but I don’t see why I should select Jali or Zwane,” Broos said in May this year.
However, the 70-year old did include Zwane in his 23-man squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Sierra Leone and Botswana.

“Only fools don’t change their mind,” he said during the announcement at SABC1.
“I said a lot of things about Zwane and that he was too old. I tried to change things and look at younger players.
“When I see Zwane play he looks like the guy we can need and use. He is an intelligent player, he can score.
“We have to give him a chance, certainly with Tau not there, Hlongwane not there, Makgopa not there.
“It’s not based on pressure. If that was the case I would’ve done it six months ago. It’s not because of the pressure but like I said only fools don’t change their mind.”
