Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena was substituted at half-time against France.
The 25-year-old has been a regular in Broos’ selections since the Belgian tactician took over the reigns for Bafana.
However, on Tuesday evening Mokoena and Fagrie Lakay were taken off at the break, with Broos explaining he was hoping Goodman Mosele would give the midfield more power.
“I think that Teboho had the little bit problems with whether the French opponents,” he said after the match.
“It was also not good when he had the ball, he loses a few balls in moments that he didn’t have to lose it.
“Therefore he was changed during the half-time and with Mosele I taught to have a player with a little bit more power. We needed that.
“If you see the players in the France team, they are all powerful, certainly in midfield and then they changed it, and then you have a guy like Pogba who is coming in the midfield.
“So we need a little bit more power and that’s the reason why Teboho was changed during the half-time.”
Things, though, didn’t improve much, as France added three more goals in the second interval to send Bafana packing with a 5-0 defeat.
