Bees swarm forces City Rovers, Callies clash postponement |

The Motsepe Foundation Championship clash between Platinum City Rovers and Pretoria Callies was on Friday postponed due to a bees swarm.

The two teams were scheduled to lock horns at Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg.

Kick-off was delayed because of bees in the goalposts, which saw the two return to the change rooms for their safety after a short warm-up session.

Smoke was used to chase the bees away, but the smoke method seemed to have failed.

In the end, the match officials decided to postpone the match after a long delay of the showdown.

However, the decision was taken to play the game on Saturday, 15 October 2022.

The kick-off will still be at 15:00 at the very same venue.

The supporters are urged to keep their tickets as they will be able to use them tomorrow to enter the stadium.

City Rovers coach Tesco Macheke has recently complained about how match officials are always against them.

WHAT MACHEKE SAID ABOUT REFEREES

“You could see that most of the time, these games are determined by officials, and officials are giving our games away,” he told journalists after their 2-1 defeat to Baroka FC last week.

“As a coach, I mean, I’m carrying a lot of families, and I have to answer for something that was beyond my control which was supposed to take the right decisions for us so that we balance the game.

“This is a fair game we need to play at the end of the day.”

The two clubs are currently languishing at the bottom of the South African football second tier, with Callies placed 15th, whereas City Rovers find themselves in the 16th position. Both teams have collected four points after seven games.

Meanwhile, coach Fadlu Davids was also spotted at the stadium following his return to the country from the Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow, where he was working alongside former Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer, who recently got sacked.
