Baxter Discusses Potential Zuma Return

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has discussed what Dumisani Zuma needs do to finally make his long-awaited return to the pitch.

The 26-year-old appeared on the bench in two of Amakhosi’s last three games but hasn’t made an appearance for the club in 2021/22. He was first ruled out with injury before being suspended by the club over alleged drunk driving.

However, Zuma returned to training in January and made the bench against Golden Arrows and TS Galaxy, with Baxter explaining if the player continues to work hard in training he’ll soon get his chance.

“Dumi has obviously been better in training because that’s why you get selected for the bench,” Baxter told reporters.

“I don’t think it’s a case of let’s wait x-months and after that we can bring him back. This has been Dumi conducting himself better, properly, approaching his job in the correct manner and giving some performances in training.

“That’s why we think, if being called upon he’s now in a position that he can answer that call.

“I can’t tell you exactly when he’s coming into the team because that will depend on a lot of things but it will also depend on Dumi keeping his levels high and making sure he looks after himself and behaves properly.”

Zuma has made 100 appearances for Chiefs so far, scoring 12 goals and assisting in 11 more since joining the club from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2017.
