Banyana Banyana defender Janine Van Wyk has obtained her UEFA B coaching license in Scotland.

Van Wyk is the highest-capped player in Banyana Banyana with over 180 appearances, and highest-capped female in African history, featuring 182 times for the South African women’s national team.

She’s just two goals away from Ahmed Hassan all-time record, but has been overlooked in recent Bafana Bafana camps, telling Lethabo Kganyago in Edition 99 of the iDiski Times newspaper the situation has left her “disappointed and hurt“.

The 36-year-old won two bronze medals with Banyana Banyana in the Woman’s African Cup Of Nations (WAFCON) in 2006 & 2010, three silver medals in 2008, 2012 and 2018.

At the age of 35, she finally won the WAFCON in Morocco and she became the oldest female player to win the tournament.

While she’s been successful on the pitch, and involved in running her own club JVW FC, she’s also continued her coaching badges.

Van Wyk confirmed on Thursday that she obtained UEFA B license.
