Bafana Climb In Latest FIFA Ranking

Bafana Bafana have climbed four spots in the latest FIFA ranking, moving into 62nd position overall, but stayed 12th in Africa.

Hugo Broos’ men are unbeaten in seven games, winning five of them, including their most recent 2-1 victory over Africa’s highest-ranked team Morocco.

The South African Football Association had hoped the good run and win over the Atlas Lions would see Bafana climb into Africa’s top 10, but that was not the case – at least not in the new FIFA ranking, which was published on Thursday.

Although South Africa climbed from 66th position into 62nd, they are still in 12th among the CAF teams.

Morocco remained the highest-ranked African team, but dropped from 11th into 13th, while Senegal stayed in 18th spot.

Tunisia (31), Algeria (33), Egypt (34), Nigeria (39), Cameroon (43) and Mali (50) are the other African teams inside the world’s top 50.

Ivory Coast (51), Burkina Faso (55) and Ghana (59) are also still ahead of Broos’ side.

Overall, world champions Argentina have stayed at the top of the ranking, followed by France and Brazil. England overtook Belgium to climb into fourth spot, while Croatia jumped above Netherlands into sixth.

Italy, Portugal and Spain round off the top 10.
