Backlash over Bathabile Dlamini’s lavish birthday bash [watch]

Former minister and ANC Women’s League president Bathabile Dlamini celebrated her 60th birthday in style over the weekend at a lavish party.

The female politician – who earlier this year was found guilty of lying under oath about her involvement in a 2017 South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant payments scandal – was seen burning a hole in the dance floor at the bash.

Bathabile Dlamini’s star-studded birthday bash took place at the opulent The Zunguness venue in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands on Saturday night.

Guests included ANC heavyweights Carl Niehaus, Ace Magashule, Nomvula Mokonyane, Zweli Mkhize, Faith Muthambi, and others.

The 60-year-old wore a gold gown embellished with feathers and sequins and featuring an intricate shoulder design. She complimented the look with diamond jewellery and fabulous face beat.

Meanwhile, Twitter users expressed their disapproval of Bathabile Dlamini’s grand celebration.

This, after Bathabile’s defence seemingly pleaded poverty in her perjury case and claimed the retired minister was “single mother” and “pensioner” who had “financial dependents”

Bathabile chose a R200 00 fine instead of a four-year jail sentence for her involvement in the Sassa payout scandal.

According to Daily Maverick, Bathabile was also one of the MPs convicted of fraud after benefitting from the multi-million rand Travelgate scandal in 2003.
