AmaZulu’s Struggles Not Helping Ngema To Reignite His Form

Having not gotten out of his stride with AmaZulu as yet, Celimpilo Ngema admitted he has not yet shaken off the relegation sore point with Marumo Gallants.

Ngema was one of the stars of Gallants last season, carrying the number 10 shirt to help the club reach the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

While they did well in Africa, they struggled to juggle CAFCC and the PSL, suffering the relegation drop in the last game of the season by losing to Moroka Swallows, leaving a painful mark to Ngema.

“It will take a bit of time to get back to my best because I’m still new and I’m adjusting with the style of the team and players, and to understand how they play,” admitted Ngema.

“But I’m getting closer and closer to my best level.  

“Having said that, it will take some time [to get over the relegation with Gallants] but it is good when you come to the team they welcome you and help you to do the things in the right way.

“Because is not good what is happening within the club.”

Ngema, who won the Nedbank Cup with Gallants in the 2020/21 season, featured in 39 matches in all competitions for the Limpopo side last season.  

While Ngema was a trusted figure at Gallants, it hasn’t been a good start with AmaZulu. The club has struggled to get going, failing to score in any of their four league matches.

They are the only club yet to see the net bulges and staying united is the key to overcoming their struggles and they will look to open their scoring account this season when they host TS Galaxy at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday (19:30).

“I didn’t expect to start this slow because we did well during the pre-season,” said Ngema, referring to Usuthu winning the KZN Premier’s Cup, the off season tourney.

“We were the team that was scoring goals, but it is clear now it is hard to repeat what we did because we have not yet won the game.”
