Pitso Mosimane has broken his silence on his future, saying he has a clause in his contract to continue with Al Ahli before admitting he was shocked to see his players not celebrate after the final game of the season.
The South African tactician took the Saudi Arabian giants back into the Saudi Pro League with four games to spare after they had been relegated for the first time in their history.
He also secured the Yelo League title and on Monday finished the campaign with a goalless draw against third-placed Al Hazem.
However, the club’s leadership seems to be keen to part ways with Mosimane, with reports stating they won’t activate an option to extend his one-year deal.
But on Monday, Mosimane appeared on Saudi Arabian TV, insisting his contract got extended automatically after gaining promotion.
“I have a clause in my contract that stipulates the extension of the contract when the team gets promoted to the Saudi league, so why should I change it?,” he said after the match, as per Yallakora.
They were some strange scenes after the final whistle, described as Mosimane and his technical team staying on the pitch to celebrate promotion and the title, while the players had left the pitch and were in the dressing room.
“I don’t know what happened, I won 19 titles and celebrated all of them,” he added.
“I was surprised that the players did not celebrate the championship, but ask the management. I control things on the pitch but what’s off the pitch is out of my control.”
It remains to be seen what will happen now after Al Ahli president Walid Moaz saying the club will make a decision after the final league game, cryptically stating “Pitso Mosimane performed well with the team, but the ambition is greater”.
