Sundowns Drop Points And Lose Top Spot Again

University of the Western Cape (UWC) have reclaimed top spot on the Hollywoodbets Super League log at the halfway mark of the season, as they narrowly defeated Durban Ladies 1-0 at the Sugar Ray Xulu stadium.
Kholosa Biyana’s sole goal was enough to push the Blues to 39 points at the summit while the result sees the Kwa Zulu Natal outfit remain in eighth position with 21 points from 15 matches.
Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns dropped points away at the Sisa Dukashe stadium after being held to a 1-1 draw by Thunderbirds Ladies.
After struggling to get a goal in the opening half of the game Melinda Kgadiete scored in the 58th minute but that was short-lived as the home side found an equaliser nine minutes later.
Sundowns are now second on the standings with just a point separating them from UWC while Thunderbirds remained in 14th position with nine points from the same number of games.
Meanwhile, TS Galaxy Queens continued their unbeaten run in eight encounters as they won 3-0 against fellow rookies Copperbelt Ladies at the old Peter Mokaba stadium.
Nicole Michael, Lerato Magagula and Nothando Vilakazi were on target to help the Mpumalanga-based side stay in third place with 34 points on the log from 15 matches.
Copperbelt dropped one spot on the standings to number 11 with 16 points from the same number of games. The Queens have the best defensive record at this point of the campaign having conceded just eight goals while UWC are the highest-scoring side with 44 goals.
