Ahly Star Slapped With 12-Game Ban

Al Ahly are set to appeal the 12-game ban handed down by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) on forward Mahmoud Kahraba.

The Egypt international forward who’s not been short of controversy over his career has enjoyed an unexpected renaissance under Marcel Koller this season becoming a leading figure in their attack.

Having fallen out of favour under former coach Pitso Mosimane and being loaned out to Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor added to a six-month suspension over an unpaid fine to his former club Zamalek, it appeared his career at the Red Devils was coming to an end.

But since his return to the line-up, he’s netted eight goals in nine stars for the Club of the Century – but he will now not be available for their domestic competitions for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

The EFA imposed a hefty 12-match ban and a 1-million Egyptian Pound fine, as per KingFut after he was found guilty of ‘offensive chants’ to Zamalek fans, which led the White Knights to submit an official complaint to the federation.

It was his first start for the club in three months due to the abovementioned suspension as he produced a Man of the Match display in the 3-0 win before the unsavoury scenes back in January this year.

Ahly have confirmed they will appeal the ruling and fine and look to lift the suspension for the Super Cup clash against their fierce Cairo rivals on 5 May.
