Zwane Opens Up On Costly Dove Error

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has opened up on the error from defender Dove Edmilson that led to Marumo Gallants securing an equaliser in their 1-1 draw on Saturday evening.

Chiefs dropped two points and fell two points off the race against SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates in the race for CAF inter-club qualification spots.

And it was a case of Deja vu in a frustrating evening filled with chances and a mistake leading to the 1-1 draw, as Ashley du Preez stunning opener was canceled out by Ranga Chivaviro sneaking in between Edmilson and Brandon Petersen before scoring from an acute angle.

But Zwane refused to lay the blame solely on the Mozambique international, who for the better part of the season, has been one of their more reliable performers in defence.

“Look it does worry us as a technical team because if you look at how we conceded goals, you look at the goal we conceded this week… actually 70% if not 75 or 80% this season were like this,” Zwane said when asked by iDiski Times about the defensive error.

“If it was 20%, I would give it to oppositions and say they unlocked us, they were superior in certain areas of the field, they created opportunities and punished us. But when you look at this we’ve been talking about it from the beginning of the season.

“We’re conceding silly goals, we’re making mistakes that are very costly, we’ve conceded a lot of unnecessary goals. You know? So as a coach what do you do? Do you give up on your players, I can’t give up.

“I’m going to have to keep on working on this, change their mindset, change their mentality and make sure we keep moving and get it right.”

Amakhosi now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals, where they face Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium next week Sunday (15h00).
