The Bayhill Premier Cup 2023 has reached the quarter-final stages, and the competition saw its first major upset as Mamelodi Sundowns lost out in the round of 16.

Saturday morning saw the group stages completed, and on Saturday afternoon the knockout stages kicked off.

Cape Town City came from a goal down to beat FC Porto 2-1, while Highlands Park were 1-0 winners over the SAFA Cape Town Academy.

Bayhill United joined them in the last eight, after a penalty shootout victory Rygersdal. The game had ended 1-1 after extra time.

But as mentioned, it was the end of the road for Sundowns, as they fell to a 2-1 loss to Hellenic

Grassy Park booked their place with a 1-0 win over JL Zwane, while Stellenbosch continued their excellent form as they beat Virginia Academy 3-1.

In the final game of the day, defending champions Cape Town Spurs booked their place with a comprehensive 5-1 win over Amaluwu’s FC, with Luke Baartman scoring a hat-trick.

The quarter-finals will be played at Erica Park on Sunday morning, with all four games scheduled for 11h30, while the semi-finals will be played in the evening at 18h00 and 19h30.
