Chippa Utd & Pirates Starting XIs Announced

Chippa United and Orlando Pirates have announced their starting line-ups for this afternoon’s DStv Premiership encounter at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
It’s been five league matches without a win for the Chilli Boys who dropped into 14th place, just two points ahead of Maritzburg United in the relegation playoff spot and three ahead of Marumo Gallants after they picked up maximum points midweek.
The Eastern Cape-based side will gain some confidence from the fact that they claimed three points against the Buccaneers in the first round at the Orlando Stadium with a late goal from the Tanzanian international Abdi Banda – which was Daine Klate’s only win as head coach.
Meanwhile, the Pirates know very well anything less than three points won’t be enough especially after SuperSport United claimed the maximum points on Friday night.
The hopes of finishing second for Ezimnyama ngenkani remain in their hands after they picked up seven wins in their last nine league matches.
SuperSport’s win saw them move to 43 points on the log – three of Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, meaning anything less than a win in Gqeberha will be a disappointment for Jose Riveiro and his men.
The last time the Pirates won at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium was back in March 2021, when goals by Tshegofatso Mabasa, Abel Mabaso and Goodmen Mosele overturned an early lead by Phakamani Mahlambi.
Overall, Pirates have won their last six successive matches at Chippa, with the Chilli Boys’ last win over Pirates at home dating back to May 2016.
Here is how they line up:
