In a power alert on Friday, 31 March, power utility Eskom said Stage 4 load shedding would kick in again from 16:00.

Stage 4 load shedding

Power cuts will be maintained at Stage 4 until 5:00 on Saturday, 1 April. The weekend load shedding forecast mostly consists of Stages 3 and 4 load shedding. Sunday will see Stage 2 implemented from 5:00 until 16:00.

Capacity constraints

Eskom said 15 388MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns and a further 7169MW is offline for planned maintenance.

A generating unit each at Hendrina, Matimba and two units at Matla Power Station were taken offline for repairs over the past 24 hours. There is also a delay in returning units to services at Camden, Kriel and Tutuka Power Stations, which is adding to capacity constraints.

Two units were returned to service at Lethabo and Medupi Power Stations during the same period.
