Broos Announces Bafana XI For Liberia Clash

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his starting XI for the must-win clash in Liberia this evening.

Broos’ men enter the game on the back of a five-match unbeaten run that saw them picking up wins over Sierra Leone (4-0), Botswana (1-0) and Mozambique (2-1), and draws with Angola (1-1) and the Lone Stars.

Liberia, meanwhile, have only won one of their last nine matches, a 2-1 in the African Nations Championship qualification over Senegal before the losing the second leg 3-0.

The last won a fixture at home in November 2021, when they beat Central African Republic 3-1.

With Morocco already qualified and Zimbabwe still suspended from international football by FIFA, South Africa will qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations with a win in Monrovia today, while anything less will make it very difficult.

Liberia will book their ticket for the AFCON with a home win, while a low-scoring draw (0-0 or 1-1) would mean that Bafana need to collect more points against Morocco than Liberia would.

Both countries have faced each other thrice, with South Africa winning once and two matches ending in a draw.

Here is how they line up:

Liberia XI: tbc.

Subs:

Bafana XI: Williams, Mobbie, Xulu, Mvala, Maela, Mokoena, Sithole, Morena, Tau, Mayambela, Lepasa.

Subs: Mothwa, Goss, Foster, Modiba, Le Roux, Saleng, Timm, Zwane, Mailula, Sibisi, Hlongwane
