Zwane Confirms 5 Out For Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has confirmed that Phathutshedzo Nange suffered a new injury setback and adds to the list of players ruled out for today’s DStv Premiership clash.

The Amakhosi have won three successive games for a first time under Zwane this season and will be keen to add another three points at Harry Gwala Stadium tonight.

Chiefs, who currently sit on 34 points and have climbed to fourth place on the log, will have a chance to make up ground on either second-placed SuperSport United or third-placed Orlando Pirates, with both facing each other.

However, Zwane will once again have to reshuffle his line-up, with in-form defender Siyabonga Ngezana suspended for the game.

“Not having a consistent line up has been part of our journey this season and we have accepted it, but you know, the players who are given the opportunity when we reshuffle the team always take their chances, which is very key,” he told the club’s media team.

“It talks to individual preparations and how the players are always giving their best and we are always trying to strike a balance, when that situation comes up.”

Ngezana is not the only Chiefs player on the sidelines, with Cole Alexander, Reeve Frosler and Khama Billiat also out, while Phathutshedzo Nange suffered an injury setback.

“It was great to see Dillan Solomons back last week. He won’t be on the same level of fitness as the rest of the guys but he is a soldier, always focused and giving his best all the time,” Zwane added.

“We are going to have to manage him and make sure we don’t risk any injuries again. We also have Christian Saile back. He was suspended for the last game. Hopefully, we will have a balanced team going forward.

“We still have Cole Alexander, Reeve Frosler and Khama Billiat out. We lost Phathutshedzo Nange today. We thought he was getting closer to full recovery we could get him ready for the game next week by giving him match minutes this week.

“However, it is one of those things where you don’t have everyone available and we will carry on with the guys at hand until everyone else is fit and ready.”

Chiefs face Maritzburg at Harry Gwala Stadium in the late kickoff at 20:00 on Saturday. Fadlu Davids’ side enter the game on the back of going six games in all competitions without a win.
