Sikhosana Not Impressed With Phillys Games Viral Philly’s Game Incident

Orlando Pirates legend Jerry Sikhosana has slammed the viral showboating incident at the Phillys Games.

The 53-year-old was left unimpressed after Isithembiso FC did a ‘sleeping skill’ right at the end of their game against Phanda FC, which saw them progress to the next stage by 6-1 on aggregate.

The Phillys Games, who have become the biggest eKasi tournament, which produced players such as Kaizer Chiefs’ DDC starlet Mfundo ‘Obrigado’ Vilakazi, finished on Sunday with One Lion beating Isithembiso 5-4 on penalties in the final.

However, there was one particular incident involving Isithembiso, whose players were laying on the ground to allow their opposition to score, that grabbed headlines at this year’s tournament, with Sikhosana saying coaches shouldn’t allow such.

“I think for me it goes down to the coaches the seriousness of themselves in leading a team, in leading these young boys,” Sikhosana said on Super Sport TV.

“Because if you stand there as coach and allow what these boys are doing. Earlier on today I came to watch Isithembiso playing against another team and they were leading, I think aggregate was 6-1 [it was 6-0] and then you get a player that gets a ball. He sleeps literally sleeps and all Isithembiso players had to sleep I mean that’s disrespecting the game itself.

“We can have jokes, we can have all these ‘but what was happening in the morning’ I think it’s something that I cannot tolerate and I think it goes to the coaches that are leading those teams and that doesn’t sit well with me because we wanna unearth talent.

“We want to see the next Helman Mkelele, the next Jerry Sikhosana, the next Pollen Ndlanya.

“This is where we come from, so let’s respect the game and make sure that anybody who’s sitting out there with an opportunity of being broadcast live, people watch and they want to look for that player but if they see what they see here they will tell you we don’t want to waste our time.”
