Will Chiefs Sign A Blom Replacement – Zwane Responds

Arthur Zwane has discussed whether Kaizer Chiefs will sign a replacement for Njabulo Blom, insisting his side will not make any ‘panic buys’.
Blom, 23, left the Amakhosi on 23 December to join St. Louis City in the Major League Soccer, leaving a gap in the defensive midfield position, where he thrived before the FIFA World Cup break.
Many now expect Chiefs to enter the January market for a Blom replacement, but Zwane insisted they might give players such as Samkelo Zwane more game-time, while the club is still on the hunt for a new striker.
“I hear a lot of people saying we need to beef up,” he said when asked by iDiski Times about replacing Blom.
“But we don’t just going to beef up for the sake of bringing in players. If Samkelo will settle, we also played him in that position just to see how he can settle in terms of structure.
“He is the quality and the ability, there is no doubt about it. We won’t just do panic signings, we will go for needy. When I say needy, it’s where we want to beef up – ‘we’re lacking here, we’re lacking here and there’.
“Realistically we’re looking for a striker. If we get a striker, yes. But a striker that will come and add value, a striker that can help the likes of Duba to grow.
“We don’t want a striker that will just add numbers. If we don’t get the player we’re looking for, we’d rather play Duba, he will grow. He’ll be a better player, he’ll start scoring goals, just like he’s done in the reserve team.”
