Ghana Star On Copying Ronaldo’s ‘SIU’ Celebration

Ghana winger Osman Bukari has explained why he copied Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘siu’ celebration in the Black Stars’ 3-2 loss to Ronaldo’s Portugal.

The 23-year-old scored his side’s second goal in the 3-2 loss in the 89th minute and ran to the corner flag to do Ronaldo’s famous celebration.

However, there was mixed reception to his antics as several Ghana fans claimed he should’ve just collected the ball from the net as quickly as possible to restart the play, while others said it was disrespectful to Ronaldo to mimic his celebration.

As a consequence of the backlash, Bukari took to social media to set the record straight on his antics.

“I have noticed my celebration today has generated comments claiming I was disrespectful towards Ronaldo. This is incorrect,” he wrote.

“I was overcome by the emotion of the moment of scoring for my country on my World Cup debut leading to my celebration.

“My upbringing doesn’t permit me to be disrespectful to elders let alone one of my idols.

“Thanks for your support and we focus on our next game.”

Ghana now face South Korea in their second Group H fixture and will need to avoid defeat if they want to keep their hopes of progressing alive.
