Ex-PSL trio get their consolation in Zimbabwe

Following a year filled with thrills and spills, the former PSL trio of Kelvin and Elvis Moyo, along with MacClive Phiri, got their season’s consolation.

They were part of Bulawayo Chiefs’ Chibuku Super Cup winning squad on Sunday.

Prior to the triumph, they endured an indifferent campaign, including off-the-field protests and speculation that the club’s franchise would be sold.

In the DStv premiership, the Moyo twins were in the books of Chippa United, while Phiri played for Bidvest Wits before moving to Sekhukune United.

At some point in the just-ended season, the Moyo twins were absconding training sessions in protest of salary arrears.

However, they bounced back with an impressive performance in the final to account for the R 1.3 million [USD 75 000] prize money.

MONEY TO BE SHARED…

According to the club leadership, the money will be shared among the players and the technical team.

“Everyone wants to win no matter how small the tournament is. For us, I think it’s a good way of bouncing back after our time in the South African league,” Kelvin Moyo said.

“I also played in the Zambian league before returning home. It’s not easy to settle after coming from a highly-rated league. I can testify.

“To win something means a lot, and hopefully, this will boost everyone going into the off-season.”

Moyo is still hoping to get another opportunity beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.

“Competitions are different in Zimbabwe, but our hope is to get offers elsewhere,” he said.

“In South Africa, we were exposed to good and different standards. I’m not taking away anything from the play in Zimbabwe, but we all dream of moving places because of football.”

This was Bulawayo Chiefs’ first trophy since gaining promotion in 2018. The Moyo twins, however, won this title then in the books of FC Platinum.
