Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has called up DStv Diski Challenge captain Ndumiso Ngiba to the first-team squad for the Carling Black Label Cup.

On Wednesday, iDiski Times spotted a new face in their training ahead of the Black Label Cup this Saturday, with Pirates set to face Kaizer Chiefs in a Soweto Derby for a place in the final.

With injuries to captain Innocent Maela, who stated ‘it’s too early to tell’ whether he will be fit enough to compete, and Nkosinathi Sibisi ruled out – Ngiba has been roped in as back-up for the squad.

The 20-year-old has been in inspiring form for the reserve team this season, with Pirates in fifth place, five points behind league leaders Cape Town City and the technical team is said to have been pleased by his rapid progress over the last few months.

Riveiro subsequently roped him into the first-team set-up, where he could even feature on the bench this weekend as he nears closer to first-team football at the Buccaneers.

Thembinkosi Lorch remains on the sidelines with a knee injury while there have been no further updates on Ndumiso Mabena who’s been training with the squad over the past month.
