Sundowns Open Up On Boutouil & Transfer Plans

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena says the club will make an announcement over Morocco defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil while suggesting several players are set to leave the club.

The 24-year-old was signed from Sporting Club Chabab Mohammédia back in June before visa and work-permit issues delayed his arrival in South Africa.

Boutouil, who signed a three-year deal with a two-year option after his R7-million transfer eventually arrived last month, and after a few training sessions, was struck down with an injury.

It’s believed his International Clearance Certificate (ITC) from the FRMF and registration took some time to arrive and while it’s suggested he’s been registered at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) already for the 2022/23 season – Sundowns have yet to officially confirm the deal.

“The foreign spaces, we’re okay at the moment, we had to make some very difficult decisions in allowing a player like Safranko to leave, it was not an easy decision because of the quality he possesses and the person that he is also,” Mokwena said.

“But we had to free up space, the club will make announcements in due course with regards to AB so we just have to be a bit more patient in that space. But will we make any more business? I think we’ll see more outgoing than incomings – that’s what I think. At this moment we have far too many players to think of bringing in more.”

The 2020 African Nations Championship winner is expected to become an integral part of the Masadawana defence with the left-footed defender regarded as one of the finest talents on the continent.
