Venda Football Academy (VFA) head coach Michael Loftman has moved to quell reports in the media that suggested he was involved in an altercation with his assistant coach Luvhengo Mungomeni during their first home game against Magesi FC.

The Vhembe-based outfit went on to lose the showdown with a 1-0 scoreline.

The pair were reported to have clashed prior to the game’s kick-off with an argument between the two rumoured to have almost gotten physical, but luckily the club management managed to separate the duo in time.

It is said that coach Loftman had indicated that he did not want backstabbers in his circle and has since told his assistant coach, who is also head of scout that he doesn’t want him on the bench.

As result, Mungomeni was seen sitting on the grandstand instead of the bench in their second game of the campaign against Platinum City Rovers which they won 1-0.

WHATS THE ISSUE…

But the club insists that Mungomeni was sitting at the stand because of the number of people who needed to be on the bench, as the side had 20 players for the match and nine were on the bench which equalled to 16 people already on the bench.

When asked if he had a problem with his assistant coach, the former coach and analyst at Lommel SK said: “Me and coach Luvhengo are very close.

“We speak every day and there is no such issue and we have never had any serious disagreement as we just talk football and everything has been positive. We never had any moment where I even doubted us collaborating together.”

The ex-Orlando Pirates Multichoice Diski Challenge [now known as DStv Diski Challnge] coach reckons that Mungomeni has been helpful since day one

“He doesn’t see any reason for them getting involved in any heated argument as their working relationship is very solid and wants the best for the team.

“In fact, since I got here he has been helpful every single day in terms of everything I need. He has been a fantastic support to me so I have no any idea or whatsoever where that [altercation rumours] came from,” he told FARPost.

VFA will play their next league match against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in the Motsepe Foundation Championship Vhembe derby on Saturday, 17 September at Thohoyandou Stadium.

The kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 in the afternoon.
