50-year-old woman arrested for counterfeit US dollars worth $ 48 000

Mmeseipati Rosinna Xaba (50), appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 September 2022, following her arrest on charges of possession of counterfeit currency.

An intelligence driven operation took place after Crime Intelligence received information about a suspect driving around with US Dollars in Vereeniging. A Mazda CX5 as per the description was spotted, stopped and searched along the road.

The resultant search uncovered about $ 48 000 US dollars which was later confirmed to be counterfeit. The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team has been seized with further investigation.

The court has remanded Xaba in custody pending a formal bail application on Tuesday, 20 September 2022.
