Bafana CHAN Qualifier Squad Confirmed

Just a day before they take on Angola in CHAN qualifiers, Bafana Bafana have confirmed the squad for this weekend’s first leg encounter.

With Hugo Broos not involved in competitions like CHAN or the Cosafa Cup, Bafana will once again be led by assistant Helman Mkhalele, who was also in charge as Bafana beat the Comoros Islands over two legs in the previous round.

As reported in this week’s iDiski Times, SAFA had been speaking to clubs to try and release players, as there had been a lot of difficulty in making the previous selection.

A number of new faces have been called up for Sunday’s game, that is scheduled to be played at 6pm SA time at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.

“We will be playing against a stronger side in this final and crucial round of the CHAN qualifiers,” Mkhalele said.

“Most of Angola’s squad comprises of players who are plying their trade in the top three teams from the Angolan League. And coming into this round, we knew that we had to bring in the kind of talent that would match what we would be up against them.

“That was achieved and we would like to thank all the PSL clubs who assisted us with the players for this round, given the fact that these qualifiers are taking place outside of the FIFA date.

“It is now up to us to make sure that we go out there, do our best and make our country proud. We want to qualify for the CHAN tournament, which will take place in Algeria next year. We have come here with the intention of fighting for positive results, and that we will fight for.
