Maritzburg & Sekhukhune Share The Spoils

The home team grabbed a late equaliser as Maritzburg United and Sekhukhune United played to a 1-1 draw at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday night, with both goals scored by players on loan from Orlando Pirates.

It was end-to-end action in the first half at Harry Gwala Stadium, with half chances for both teams in the opening minutes.

Tshegofatso Mabasa broke the deadlock, taking advantage of an error from goalkeeper King Ndlovu, as he misread the flight of a ball into the box, and Mabasa pounced to make it 1-0 in the 15th minute.

It was an action-packed half, energised by the crowd, but while both teams threatened there was no more score in the first half and it remained 1-0 to Sekhukhune at the break.

Mabasa had a chance five minutes into the second half, but this time Ndlovu made the save.

The second half though saw few actual shots on goal, with both teams not delivering in the final third.

But Maritzburg were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute when Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya was adjudged to have committed a foul on Brandon Theron.

In his first game for Maritzburg, Bonginkosi Makume stepped up to take it but Nsabata made the save, however, another debutant Bongani Sam followed up to blast in the equaliser.
