- Two senior police officers from Crime Intelligence and the Hawks are appearing in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on corruption-related charges linked to alleged unlawful dealings in precious metals.
- The officers were arrested alongside a businessman following an investigation by the Gauteng Counter-Intelligence Operations unit.
- The case has intensified scrutiny around allegations made at the Madlanga Commission involving political protection and links to criminal syndicates.
Two high-ranking police officers are appearing before the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Monday, 11 May 2026, on corruption-related charges.
The officers from Crime Intelligence and the Hawks, along with a businessman, were arrested on Sunday following an investigation by the Gauteng Counter-Intelligence Operations unit.
The group is accused of unlawfully dealing in precious metals.
While police are yet to formally identify the suspects, it has now been widely reported that senior Crime Intelligence member Major-General Feroz Khan was arrested during an operation at his apartment in Houghton.
His arrest followed that of Gauteng Hawks head Major-General Ebrahim Kadwa.
The generals have been linked to an incident at OR Tambo International Airport last week, where a businessman allegedly attempted to leave the country with undeclared raw precious metals.
They have also been accused, based on witness testimony at the Madlanga Commission, of shielding criminal syndicates.
At the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi accused Khan of being “a political fixer” and a politically protected individual.
Mkhwanazi further claimed Khan received protection from senior politicians to shield him from investigations.
During his testimony before the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee, Mkhwanazi also alleged that former Police Minister Bheki Cele pressured him in 2021 to protect Khan during an investigation into a major drug bust.
The suspects are believed to have been detained in police custody overnight, with more details about the alleged crimes expected to emerge in court.
