Students torched a building in VUT during protest

VANDERBIJLPARK – The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) on Thursday, 09 June suspended classes and chased students out of residence after students allegedly set a building at the institution on fire during a protest over not receiving their allowances.
The university notified students who occupy the institution’s residence to vacate by 5pm latest on Thursday. The students were chased out and left stranded with nowhere to go.
The university has since allowed the students back to residence but students are expected to vacate the premises again on Friday, 10 June at 10am.
The university said it has launched an investigation and the culprits will face disciplinary action.
