Broos – The First Game Is Always Important

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has stated that having a good start to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers is important.

The Belgian coach was speaking ahead of this evening’s opening qualifier against Morocco in Rabat, which will be Bafana’s first game of the qualifying campaign.

Broos said that it could be a big boost if they can get a good result in this first game, as it makes the path to qualifying for the finals in Cote d’Ivoire easier.

“Ja, it’s, it’s a big qualifier because it’s, it’s a very good team,” Broos told the SAFA media department.

“And it’s the first game of the qualifiers. The first game is always important. When you play qualifiers, if you can have a good result, it’s a little bit easier for the next games because you don’t have to change the other ones.

“Even now, it’s a little bit different with three countries in one group, so it’s a little bit different. But having a good start is very important.”

Broos added that apart from Terrence Mashego who did not travel, there are no real injury concerns, and he is confident that all those players with niggles will be ready for the game.

“There are a few little injuries but I don’t think we have to be aware of that,” Broos added.

“They will be ready to be on the bench certainly. So from that level, I don’t really have much problems.”
