A Netherlands-based striker has received his maiden call-up to the South African national team.

FARPost can exclusively reveal that Vitesse Arnhem striker Simon Van Duivenbooden has been called up to the upcoming Cosafa Cup scheduled to be played from the 5th to the 17th of July 2022.

Under 23 national team coach David Notoane is set to take charge of the team as he looks to begin preparations for the 2024 Olympic games.

Notoane is looking to bring in a few overseas-based players who can be part of the core of his team in the near future.

Van Duivenbooden, who was born in Netherlands to South African parents, is a strong, bulky striker with a growing reputation for hitting the back of the net.

His prowess for Vitesse’s reserves earned him promotion to the senior team where he played two Eredivisie games last season.

He featured 23 times for the reserve side and found the back of the net 17 times.
