Soli Philander passes away

Funeral arrangements for veteran South African entertainer Soli Philander have been announced following his passing earlier this week after a long battle with cancer.

The 65-year-old actor, comedian and playwright died on 4 March 2026, leaving behind a legacy that spans theatre, television and children’s entertainment.

Philander was widely recognised for his role as the tortoise character Timothy Traddle on the popular SABC1 children’s programme Kideo, a performance that made him a familiar face to generations of viewers.

Details of the memorial arrangements were shared online on 7 March through the Melyn Marais Company YouTube channel.

According to the announcement, Philander will be laid to rest during a funeral service scheduled for 11:00 on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

The service will take place at the New Apostolic Church in the Silvertown Congregation on Durant Road in Athlone, Cape Town.

It has also been reported that the ceremony will be live-streamed on social media, allowing fans and supporters to pay their respects remotely.

A private cremation is expected to follow the service.

Philander’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes across social media, with fans remembering him not only for his talent but also for his warm personality.

Many supporters reflected on how he remained authentic online, especially on TikTok, where he often shared light-hearted videos.
