Zungu Responds To PSL Return Rumours

Bongani Zungu has confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns are the only South African team who have spoken to his agent and he would be open to a return to the Premier Soccer League.

The 29-year-old will be a free agent upon the expiry of his contract on 30 June and is currently in South Africa.

His return to Mzansi has sparked rumours he could indeed move back to the PSL and he confirmed that he’s hoping to secure a long-term deal – whether it’s home or abroad, with even his former side Amiens still in the running.

“I’m very calm. As I said earlier, this is a very, very important part of my football career. For me, I want it to be maybe my last contract of my career,” he said on Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube.

“Whether abroad or at home.”

Zungu, who is understood to have offers from Europe, also confirmed that Masandawana are the only local team who have contacted his agent so far.

“I met president Motsepe the other year and he told me Sundowns will always be home,” he added.

“So Sundowns will always be my home, no matter what happens from now until when I make my decision on where I’m gonna play.

“Sundowns is the only team that spoke to my agent and they are speaking to my agent still. Others are trying to [as well].”

When asked whether Kaizer Chiefs have also reached out to him, Zungu remained coy in his response and said “I’m a top player, of course teams are going to try and find out what’s your situation and all. My phone is open, I’m listening to [offers].”

Zungu left Sundowns in 2016 and has since played for Vitoria Guimaraes, Amiens and Rangers.
