BREAKING: Middendorp & Martizburg Part Ways

Published

on

Maritzburg United have parted ways with head coach Ernst Middendorp via mutual consent which spells the end of his fourth spell at the club.

The decision comes as a shock after steering a much-changed Martizburg squad which lost several key players and were left with an ageing squad, to safety in the 2021/22 campaign.

Eight players were subsequently released last week which signalled a potential squad rebuild in the upcoming window, but it will be without the German tactician.

iDiski Times can confirm that the club have already been offered coaches to replace Middendorp but indications are that they want to take a local route.

When this website contacted Maritzburg Football and Operations Manager Quinton Jetoo for comment he stated that he is on holiday and knows nothing about the news.

However iDiski Times was able to get a response from Middendorp himself, who confirmed “I’m no longer with Maritzburg United”.

The German’s latest stint with the club since succeeding Eric Tinkler in November 2022 lasted 59 games, with a record of 15 wins, 19 draws and 25 defeats.

The news fuels speculation over a potential return of Fadlu Davids, who was released by Orlando Pirates last week, even though chairman Farouk Kadodia regarded those rumours as “fake news” when contacted earlier on Tuesday by iDiski Times.
