Klate – If Benni Asked Me To Join Him At Pirates…

Daine Klate has said he would jump at the chance to be part of the technical team at Orlando Pirates, if Benni McCarthy was to become the new coach and asked him.

The former Pirates winger sent social media into a frenzy with comments he made during a SAFM interview with Thabiso Mosia earlier this week.

The current DDC coach at Chippa United, was asked whether he’d one day go back to Pirates in a coaching capacity, with former Bucs teammates McCarthy, Moeneeb Josephs and himself reportedly being linked with the job.

“If Benni asked me, definitely, I don’t think I would say no to Benni McCarthy, ” said Klate on SAFMSportOn.

“We’ve spoken about that while we were playing as well and we meet up a lot when we are in each other’s areas or company. We are good friends, our families are good friends as well, so we are always chatting.”

Klate also mentioned his fondness for his former club.

“If it happens not in the distant future then obviously it will be a good thing and a good challenge but for me I have a soft spot for Pirates,” he added.

“I grew up supporting Pirates and that is the reason why I ended up playing for Pirates.

“If one day the calling comes and I am able to help the team again and I don’t think I will refuse it.”

Pirates announced last week that co-coach Fadlu Davids had left the club.
