SON ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY MURDERING HIS FATHER OVER CIGARETTE
Vredefort police in the Free State have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the death of his 61-year-old father following an alleged assault.
According to police reports, on Sunday, at approximately 16:10, Vredefort police responded to a complaint of an alleged assault at a residence in the Mapetla Section of Mokwallo.
Police said upon arrival, officers found the 61-year-old victim, identified as Ndode Lenong, lying on a bed with head injuries and a swollen face. Police were informed that he had allegedly been assaulted by his son using an unknown object.
The victim was transported to Parys Hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Bloemfontein for further medical treatment. On Monday, 3 August 2026, at about 09:10, he succumbed to his injuries.
It is alleged that the deceased and his son had argued over a cigarette prior to the assault.
Police arrested the 32-year-old suspect at his residence on a charge of murder. He is expected to appear in the Vredefort Magistrate’s Court soon.
