Social media has been abuzz after The Ascots shared a poster of Bryson Tiller and other international artists “set” to perform in Durban this July, is this real or fake news?

THE ASCOTTS REVEAL PERFORMANCES BY BRYSON TILLER AND OTHERS

Bryson Tiller, DJ Mustard, Masego and more were advertised as headliners for a debut, premium festival experience at Greyville Racecourse on 4 July 2026. Aline Media Group announced the experience, named The Ascots, via an Instagram post that went viral. In the post, Bryson Tiller was the headliner, allegedly accompanied by DJ Mustard, Masego and more.

However, the post has since been taken down. DJ Mustard took to his Instagram Story to say that it was not true and he will not be in Durban this July, leaving many wondering if Bryson Tiller would still be performing in the coastal city.

The man behind The Ascots is Sibo Mhlungu, who explained that the intention is to uplift his hometown.

“The focus is on the full experience, from arrival to the final act. As someone born and bred in Durban, this is more than just an event to me; it’s a way to uplift and contribute to my hometown. For years, Durban has been treated as a secondary market for large-scale shows and has rarely been considered a destination for international artists or events of this scale,” said Mhlungu.

It is unclear whether Bryson Tiller will in fact be performing in Durban as he has not confirmed this personally. However, it was also the prices of seeing these artists perform that set tongues wagging.

R150K PER TABLE?

According to The Ascots event on Howler, the prices are as follows:

  • R9850 – Includes race course ticket access, entry to The Ascots Village Lawns, live performances by international headliners and special guest artists and a complimentary champagne brunch.
  • R100 000 – 10 racecourse ticket access, entry to The Ascots Terraces, live performances by international headliners and special guest artists and complimentary champagne brunch
  • R150 000 – includes 10 racecourse ticket access, entry to The Ascots Village, live performances by international headliners and special guest artists and complimentary Champagne Brunch.

This comes as a popular Durban tourist attraction closes their doors.
