Carling Cup Draw: Big Three Set For Semi-Finals As They Avoid Each Other
The Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal draw is out, and it has delivered some juicy fixtures.
The seeded draw meant the Gauteng top three – Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns – could not meet each other, so the big guns were kept apart.
Here is what is on the menu:
· Stellenbosch FC v AmaZulu FC.
· Orlando Pirates v Sekhukhune United.
· Kaizer Chiefs v Siwelele FC.
· Mamelodi Sundowns v Golden Arrows.
The defending champions face Sekhukhune United after cruising past Milford FC 3-0 in the first round, though Abdeslam Ouaddou was far from satisfied with his players on the night.
Amakhosi host Siwelele after Wandile Duba’s hat-trick demolished TS Galaxy and ended a five-game winless run. Fernando Da Cruz will hope his side’s confidence is back.
Sundowns face a familiar face in Golden Arrows’ new coach Mandla Ncikazi, the former Orlando Pirates co-coach who has just returned to Abafana Bes’thende. Miguel Cardoso’s men edged Gallants 1-0 to get here.
Gavin Hunt’s Stellenbosch, the 2023 champions, take on an AmaZulu side flying in the league under Arthur Zwane.
