Pirates Move Into Africa’s Top 10

Orlando Pirates have enjoyed a swift ascent into the top 10 ranked clubs in Africa after their run towards the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup final this season.

Pirates may have suffered defeat on penalties to Berkane but their heroic efforts throughout the campaign have seen them move 12 places and level on points with Etoile du Sahal based on the five-year CAF Coefficient system of ranking performances of each club in continental competitions.

Berkane, who secured their second title in three seasons moved from eighth place into fifth while Petro de Luanda’s run towards the semi-finals of the Champions League earned them a massive jump of 13 spots.

Mamelodi Sundowns remained in sixth place, while Esperance dropped from second to third after both clubs suffered shock exits in the quarter-finals of Africa’s elite club competition.
