AmaZulu striker Gabadinho Mhango says he has found happiness at the club, admitting it is something he never got at his previous team – Orlando Pirates.
Mhango has scored three goals in five matches this season, admitting that his new-found joy at Usuthu is showing the returns on the pitch.
After starring for Malawi at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations star earlier in the year, Mhango started his campaign like a house on fire and his fine form helped his new club to their best ever start since the 1998/99 season under the legendary coach Clive Barker.
After four matches, Brandon Truter’s side were on top of the DStv Premiership table with 10 points before losing to Golden Arrows in the KwaZulu-Natal-Natal derby.
However, the rebuffed this disappointment with a 2-1 extra-time win over Cape Town City in the MTN8 quarter-final where Mhango assisted Augustine Kwem’s winner and picked up the Man of the Match award.
“The most important thing in life is to be happy and to enjoy football,” Mhango told Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified.
“I think for me I’m enjoying football, that’s why I’m doing well. There’s more love here and that is why it has been easy to adapt to the club’s style.
“Scoring three goals is not something that is new, it has been there. I just needed another chance and opportunity. But the team for me comes first.”
Coach Brandon Truter has gone up top with Mhango, Kwem and Bongi Ntuli to press oppositions not play from the back. It has worked like a charm, as all three of them have scored already in the new campaign.
“We do combinations all the time at training and we stay behind and do some finishing,” added Mhango who shared the PSL golden shoe award with Shalulile in the 2019-20 season.
“We are also telling each other what we can do and that is why it has been going well.”
The trio will be expected to unsettle Kaizer Chiefs who they visit in the DStv Premiership at FNB Stadium on Saturday at 17.30.
