A last-minute wonder goal by Richard Mbulu saw Mamelodi Sundowns drop points on Monday evening.

The defending champions drew 1-1 with Baroka on Monday evening and now sit on 48 points on the log – 18 more than second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have played two games less.

Lyle Lakay had the first real chance of the game after striking the post following a direct free kick in the 20th minute.

Evidence Makgopa forced Denis Onyango into a great save a minute later, before Baroka were awarded a penalty kick after Rushine De Reuck touched the ball with his hand inside the box.

However, Mashweu Mphahlele fired the penalty over the crossbar.

Lakay clipped the woodwork again after sending a sublime shot from outside the box against cross bar in the 34th minute.

Sundowns were forced into a first-half change after Pavol Safranko seemingly pulled his hamstring just before half-time, leading to Erwin Saavedra making his DStv Premiership debut.

It was third-time lucky for Lakay, who opened the scoring just after half-time, sending a free kick straight into the back of the net.

Lakay hit the crossbar again with another thunderous free kick in the 66th minute in a second half that was rare on highlights.

Lesedi Kapinga set up Saavedra following a brilliant solo run in the 68th minute but the Bolivian’s shot got deflected and ended up an easy catch for Elvis Chipezeze.

Peter Shalulile had the ball in the back of the net in the 72nd minute but was ruled offside.

However, it was Mbulu who had the last laugh as his stunner in the 95th minute saw Downs drop points.
