Al Ahly legend Wael Gomaa has offered an honest assessment on Percy Tau following his Man of the Match display in the 1st leg CAF Champions League semi-final win over ES Setif.
Tau came into the fixture under immense criticism in local media and even lost his place in the starting line-up for their previous Egyptian Premier League outing.
But head coach Pitso Mosimane restored him to the eleven and he was repaid with two goals and two assists against Setif which put them one foot into the final.
“This is Percy Tau’s best match with Al Ahly. I hope that the performance and spirit of the players won’t stop after today. We are not used to compromising between the win or performance,” he said on BeIn Sports (h/t) KingFut.
“Those who work in Al Ahly are never relaxed. Pitso Mosimane has not been subjected to this pressure since the club brought him, and the last period was a lesson for him and his players.
“Zinedine Zidane said during his tenure at Real Madrid that if I win 10 matches the fans will demand victory at the 11th. The pressure cannot end, and will not end in Al Ahly.”
Mosimane and his troops will now travel to Algiers for the return leg at the Stade du 5 Juillet next week Saturday with the game kicking off at 21h00.
